The Rector’s September Letter

Dear Friends,

During September, we celebrate our Harvest Festival, when we give thanks for the food we need to stay alive and for our farmers who produce it. We also think about how growing our food has been affected by climate change and global warming.  In addition we remember all those involved in packaging our food, and getting it to the shops and super-markets for us to buy and consume.

In our own country, food poverty is a growing problem, as the cost of food on offer in our super-markets continues to rise. As a result, many more people, are finding that the food they need is no longer affordable and cases of stealing food are once again on the increase. The volunteer-lead network of food banks that now exists across the country to deal with this problem, has never been busier. The nearest food banks to Barton are in Hitchin, Letchworth and Luton.

This Harvest Time, may we remember all those involved in the food industry, as well as all those who are trying to relieve food shortages across the world. We also thank God for the provision of food banks in our locality and for the many lives they are continuing  to benefit.

God Bless,

Andrew
