St Nicholas Church has held a Christmas Tree Festival for the last seventeen years.
Individuals, families, schools, community groups and businesses are invited to decorate a tree and around 50 trees are displayed in the church and hall.
During the festival weekend there are seasonal refreshments, live music and craft activities.
New for 2018 was a ‘Bethlehem stable’ with life size figures – and a donkey – illustrating the Christmas story.
The aims of the festival are to welcome people to St Nicholas, to involve all age groups in an enjoyable pre-Christmas community event and to raise funds for a local charity and for the work of the church.
The Christmas Tree Festival for 2019 will be open on Saturday 30th November and Sunday 1st December from 12.00 – 5.00pm. There will be 50 decorated trees. The Festival will be opened at 12.15 on Saturday by the choir from Arnold School.
Visitors will be invited to vote for their favourite tree. Trees will also be judged and a winner awarded in each category. Announcement of the prize winners of the Grand Draw, the winner of the vote and presentation of certificates will be at 5pm on Sunday.
There will be a Preview evening and Concert on Friday 29th November. This begins at 7pm with refreshments in the Hall and an opportunity to view the trees. At 8pm there will be a Concert in Church by the West Gallery Quire entitled ‘A Village Christmas’, including carols, readings and a Mummers play.
